DIY Faux Succulent Arrangements

March 2, 2018

Over the last 2 years succulents have held a continuous foothold in home decor popularity. And understandably so! Their beautiful appearance and easy to care for nature makes them the perfect indoor plant, hard to kill and small enough to place in even the tiniest spaces. These green plants add personality and can be customized in the cutest of ways. However adorable these tiny desert plants are, they tend to run on the pricier side (although, I am cheap so a $10 plant is wayyy out of budget) so why not dip into a new realm, faux reals. Okay, bad joke, but seriously faux succulents look nearly the exact same as the real deal, but they’re cheaper and IMPOSSIBLE to kill. One less thing to care for yet with all the home decor benefits of the real thing.

DIY Faux Succulent Arrangements

You don’t need anything fancy, faux succulents are very low maintenance and using up-cycled glassware (or even a used K-cup) can transform a boring space into a statement.

What you’ll need:

  • Several faux succulents in various sizes (consider how many arrangements you would like to create and how many small faux succulents you can fit into each container of choice)
  • Upcycled containers (I used an old candle, $ Store vases & a used k-cup)
  • Craft Soil
  • Sand

Step 1: Gather materials for your first arrangement.

Step 2: Fill with sand 1/4 of the way.

Step 3: Layer craft dirt until your container is half full (I’m an optimist). Shake lightly to settle the dirt, lightly people, this isn’t a shake weight.

Step 4: Add faux succulents and any accents. I added tiny shells to bring a little of the beach to my home but you could add pebbles, moss or fish rocks for a pop of color!

How stinking CUTE is that?! I never have to water it, or have someone watch my plants when I go on vacation. Make as many as you’d like, these are so full of variety and can be used as decor in any room.

So, there it is, a very short and sweet tutorial on how to create a faux succulent arrangement! If you give this a try let me know how they turned out, I’d love to see them 🙂 Just tag #beingmrsmcintosh on Instagram!

Until next time my friend,
